Summary:
Operates Daily; Pick-up between 7:00 – 7:30 am. Explore Wat Rong Khun (White Temple), known as the Buddhist Temple of the “Fairyland” or “Blissful Land,” and also tour the impressive Black House (Baan Si Dum), designed by National Artist Dr. Thawan Duchanee.

About the Sites:

The White Temple, also known as Wat Rong Khun, stands as a contemporary Buddhist and Hindu temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand, crafted by National Artist Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat.

Unique among Thai temples, Wat Rong Khun’s ubosot (consecrated assembly hall) is distinguished by its predominantly white hue and incorporation of white glass. This design symbolismizes Lord Buddha’s purity and wisdom, believed to illuminate the Earth and Universe.

Construction of Wat Rong Khun commenced in 1997 and remains ongoing. Upon completion, the complex will encompass nine structures, including the ubosot, halls housing Lord Buddha’s relics and images, a preaching hall, a contemplation hall, monk’s quarters, and additional facilities such as an art gallery, bathroom facilities, and more.

The Black House, or Baan Si Dum, stands as the residence and museum of Dr. Thawan Duchanee, a distinguished Thai National Artist. Situated at the entrance, the complex boasts several distinctive structures showcasing the artist’s unique architectural style. Inside the main building, Baan Si Dum, visitors encounter an array of furniture designed by Dr. Thawan Duchanee, alongside collections of animal skins and intricate wood carvings. Each edifice within the compound showcases different themes that have inspired the artist, including a fascinating array of artifacts. Notably, visitors may also encounter a talking bird that cheerfully greets passersby.

The Blue Temple, also recognized as Wat Rong Suea Ten, has emerged as a prominent landmark in the region. With its unique architecture and intricate scriptural artwork, this temple presents a compelling destination for visitors seeking cultural exploration.
